ConserveMontana: Conservation Atlas

This is a project of the Cinnabar Foundation, in partnership with the organizations in which we invest, as well as citizens in Montana and the Greater Yellowstone Ecosystem.

We inherit Montana’s spectacular natural legacy not by accident, but thanks to the vision and dedication of those who came before us. Today, another generation of Montanans is working to sustain our rural character and our clean water, abundant wildlife, unspoiled public lands, and wide-open spaces.

Our conservation legacy is a treasure chest full of great stories that often don’t get told outside of the conservation community. In June 2012, after consulting with many of the state’s conservation leaders, the Cinnabar Foundation launched a social website to collect and share these stories. Today, this virtual conservation atlas features hundreds of stories about Montanans working with their neighbors to conserve the values we hold dear.

The ConserveMontana: Conservation Atlas is a user-generated, multi-media website using interactive maps and social networks. This website has been created to tell stories:
  1. Celebrating the hard-earned legacy of conservation successes and featuring today’s ongoing work to pass this legacy into the future;
  2. Sharing the rich satisfaction of being involved in good works and the tangible benefits enjoyed by individuals, families, communities, and visitors; and
  3. Recognizing the groups, businesses, and partnerships that work together every day to conserve the values and special places we love in Montana and the GYE.
In December 2013, we were pleased once again to recognize the Best Montana Conservation Stories of the year.

We invite you to join our network of contributors! And if you’re on Facebook, please visit and “like” our Conserve Montana page.
